If you read "Harry Potter"
you might just as well be gay

From THE INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE:

The Rev. Pedro Mendoza, a Roman Catholic priest and exorcist coordinator of the Archdiocese of Mexico City, stated at the end of a five-day exorcism conference, that the popular Harry Potter book and film series could allow the devil to enter children's minds, and does "a lot of damage."

"If you put all these ideas in a child's head, that he can become a wizard, the child believes that, and that is opening an avenue through which the devil can get in. There are many demonic influences, infestations, curses, witchcraft, and it's in that field that the devil is working."

About 280 priests and lay people attended the conference, which included an US$230 (€165) exorcism course.

If I were not so completely engaged in reading the new Harry Potter I'd make a sarcastic comment.

JK Rowling is a powerful witch indeed if the Spirit is completely powerless in the face of her FANTASY world.

And MadPriest, shame on you! Eileen will go crazy today trying to decide if she wants to look at this picture or read her new book.

Eileen, darling, print out the picture and use it as a bookmark.

KJ said...

PJ, he's 18 at the end of the month, but perfectly legal in the UK.

driving him to soccer practice...

Oh, is that what the suburban soccer moms are callin' it nowadays ?! ;->

pj said...

Yeah David, because "I'd like to drive him to Cub Scouts" sounds far too dirty.

I've yet to read a single Harry Potter book, Dennis.

Everyone in my family reads Harry Potter, save me. My 11-year-old daughter is 1/3 through the new book. My 7-year-old son is at the ready. My wife is in the queue after him. I read MadPriest and friends.

I believe the age of consent in The Netherlands is at conception.

The books are better than the movies, so it doesn't really matter what Radcliffe does or wants to do. I'm another adult (50+) reading the Harry Potter book.

I think we should give all the self-styled Global South primates wands. Then they can spend their meetings comparing lengths and cores, figuring out how to fix their dysfunctional ones, and plotting to secure the greatest wand of them all...

Oh. They already do?

Never mind.

And, yes, I just read the book.

My 11-year-old daughter is 1/3 through the new book.

Update: she knocked it out in a 13 hour marathon. She was up very late, but still managed to be on time this morning for Torch Bearer acolyte duty and to hear Sarah laugh, and she did not nod off behind the altar even once. (I was watching closely.)

Now my 7-year-old son has the book. We've been home from church for 25 minutes. He's on page 44.

By the way, I was told by a fellow parishioner that Wicca was the fastest-growing, er, religion in the USA because of the Harry Potter books and movies. (She heard it on talk radio so she knows it's true.)

Someone needs to introduce her to former Anglican BabyBlue.

Hint to M of B's parishioner: Wicca does not get its ritual implements from Border Books.

I'd say Voudon and Santeria outnumber Wicca any day.

NancyP,

Now you've made me go and research Wicca and figure out what those things are, that you refer to. You are playing right into my Wiccaphobic sister's hand. I am doomed. Behold the slippery slope.
