I don't care if he's dead - he's still gay
An Update
Everyday I am still knocked sideways by the awesome way the Internet tubes shrink this over-populated world of ours. 8 billion people, but even a relatively small community like OCICBW... usually contains somebody who has a connection with every bit of news that comes in. This fact was highlighted most poignantly for me yesterday in the comment box to the post:
I don't care if he's dead - he's still gay,
... when Dave, a regular in these parts, got in touch to say he was a close personal friend of the deceased.
Dave has now written in with a short, but beautifully worded tribute to Cecil. I think it deserves posting on out here in the daylight. Thanks Dave.

Thanks, folks. Seriously, though, send your thoughts to his mom, Eva Bowers, his brother Lee, and his partner Paul Wagner. I'm stunned at his passing (like I said, didn't even know he was ill until I got the call that he'd passed), but I've already had the opportunity to reach a place of peace for Cecil.
Right now, my goal with this is to make sure that Cecil isn't just "the gay guy who got turned away".
He was a very vehemently loyal friend, and generous to a fault.
He had a wickedly evil sense of humor.
He knew how to camp it up with the best of them, if the situation demanded a laugh. (Big fuzzball guy going "Mary, grow some balls, would you?")
He had a great voice, although I had to work with him at times on reading music (conversely, he worked with me on remembering words when I started having to go "watermelon pickle watermelon" because I'd blanked on lyrics).
He was human...and I know Eva, Lee, and probably especially, Paul miss him so very much, as do the rest of his brothers from the Chorale.

Very well said, Dave. If you get a chance and you feel like it, please tell Cecil's friends and family there's a middle aged lady in rural Texas who's praying for them, and wishes she could have gotten to know Cecil. He sounds like a great guy.
That's beautiful Dave. Thank you. As his sister-in-law, I couldn't agree more about his loyalty and wit...Those were the first traits that endured him to me over 20 years ago. And I've been lucky enough to be a part of his growing up and maturing into the fine young man he became...and finally the happy and content man he became. That's not to mention the wonderful cooking I enjoyed as he developed that skill.
May Cecil be watching from above to cheer on his fellow Turtles.
