from the newcastle diocesan bulletin

I don't hold out much hope, but I suppose we better.

Let us pray...

An exchange in the comments at Fr Jake's on his post about the ABC's letter:

"I find myself caring less and less about what the ABC says. I find myself caring less and less about Lambeth.

Our bishops should definitely go and be a presence there, but I can't imagine anything good coming out of the meeting. I could be wrong. Perhaps the wind of the Spirit will blow in ways that I can't envision. I pray that may be the case, but I have little hope."

"Despite Grandmere's despondency about Lambeth, I cannot help but think that the Holy Spirit might yet high-jack the proceedings - if, that is, the holy bishops will be open to His/Her presence.

Don't be too hard on Rowan. After all, though 'appointed' by the PM of the UK, one presumes the H.S. did have some hand in his elevation - as one also presumes the H.S. had more than one hand in the election of Bp. Gene. As an admirer of both - each in their difficult calling to their respective parts of the Church - I have enough faith to believe that God can turn any situation into an opportunity for the inclusive mission of the Gospel.

Rowan has his task - which includes trying to keep the Communion together; while Gene and TEC have their task of witnessing to the all-embracing power of God's love to all God's children for whom Christ died.

Cheer up Grandma! 'God has gone up with a merry noise, Alleluia! He has gone up with the sound of the trumpet, Alleluia, Alleluia'

Come, Holy Spirit....."

"Fr. ..., thanks for the good words. Of course, you're right. "The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes."

Come, Holy Spirit...."

I suppose we'd better.

My prayer:
Please, God, give ABC Rowan Williams the courage and the discernment to prepare the eucharist, invite all then allow those who will not share the meal with all others to depart the Anglican Communion in peace.

Thanks Mimi
But remember - you rarely meet a disappointed pessimist.

MadPriest, you made this pessimist laugh. That's something.

If faith is "...the conviction of things not seen.", and I see absolutely nothing good coming into nor out of this pitiful charade of a covenant, it makes sense to pray: Godde will get us and the Creation through this, and maybe bring some good from it.

My weary brain took what my eyes beheld and turned it into "reparations for Lambeth." Since we still need reparation for 1998, it seems fitting. I think I can pray for this.

Well -- prayer has been highly recommended.

Holy Michael, warrior of God, pray with us for the defense of the church from the foolishness of princes.

Best I can do for Lambeth I fear. Any bishop actually going to this silly thing feel free to be offended -- I frankly do not care much. I suppose that is Dr. William's achievement?
