don't walk the walk!
The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP) has launched a pro-traditional marriage crusade in three states: New York, Maine and Rhode Island. Starting today, TFP volunteers, divided into three contingents, called Saint Joseph Caravans, will tour major cities rallying support for traditional marriage.
The Catholic group's handout offers "Ten reasons why homosexual 'marriage' is harmful and must be opposed," and calls on Americans to firmly and peacefully oppose the advance of the homosexual movement.
"Like counterfeit currency, homosexual 'marriage' is not true marriage. It is morally wrong, sinful, offensive to God and a violation of natural law," said TFP spokesman John Ritchie. "To claim that marriage can be anything other than the union of one man and one woman is a flat denial of reality," he continued.
COMMENT: To be honest I'm not very keen on the homosexual movement. It's old fashioned, OTT and far too theatrical. And, after a while, it does real damage to your hip joints.
In my opinion, gay men should walk like everybody else. I mean, you don't see many women, nowadays, wiggling their arses like Marilyn Monroe, do you? Although that's a bit of a shame.

Maine has already legalized same sex marriage. I doubt that a successful challenge can be mounted.
New York is getting closer and closer to legalizing same sex marriage and indeed may be the next state to do so.
Rhode Island may take some time yet. It is heavily Roman Catholic, both in population and politicians.
TFP is just another fringe nut group.
The Stance, The Movement,.... what's next?
Tradition, Family, and Property??
What is this, the Ante-Bellum South?
Ah, the good old days when the black folk worked out in the fields, and gay men worked on the Mistress' hair.
And women were seen and not heard.
Everyone knew their place, as assigned by God in Holy Scripture.
Maybe they're referring to the migration of the gay boys into the suburbs. That's gotta be stopped; it's driving the prices up, making it difficult for the proper sort to buy a starter home.
First, this is exactly what the Pope's new encyclical is advocating. If you can't control the future, then stop the clock.
Second, if you really don't like the homosexual movement and want to walk like a real man, try emulating Margaret Thatcher. Now there, was a macho bloke if I ever saw one.
Actually, thanks to a signature drive, Maine has put it up to referendum. And don't count out the haters, they are raising more money than the forces of good.
people don't realize that there is an active fight in Maine. They could suffer a real PropH8 style defeat! Read more here.
St. Joseph Caravans? St. Joseph had a traditional marriage how? Engaged and then married to a pregnant virgin?
I hope the people of Maine are wiser to the tactics of the haters than those in California...and defeat the measure. Perhaps the votes at General Convention and the language of love in D025 will have some mitigating effect if it is widely publicized there.

I also worry about the forces of hate here in Maine. The only thing that might go against them is the fact that people "not from here" seem to be running things and that does go against the grain of Mainers.
I wonder if Izzie's damage to her hip joints has anything to do the movement?
I think the people of Maine are pretty open minded and tolerant about this sort of thing. What they won't tolerate is a bunch of outsiders coming in and telling them how to think and vote. They recognize bigotry when they see it. I have confidence they'll do the right thing when it comes time to vote.
That's the way a lot of us thought out here in California! Be prepared, is all I got to say...
The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP): These are the ones who pine for the days of pope ruling over the king ruling over the nobles ruling over the peasants. The full members who are male have a costume with red tabard emblazoned with a lion rampant, with similar scheme for their pennant. The leader and senior members wear a sword on formal occasions. Students and junior members wear tabards in other colors. They have a "Chivalry" summer camp for boys. I think that this is meant to replace the Boy Scouts, who have many troops affiliated with ordinary Catholic parishes. The society's magazine is entitled "Crusade". There's an article whining about modern church architecture, giving a photographic example of an ugly church - one of those round floor plans with poured concrete parabolic radial supports - very nice, I'd say. These are curmudgeonly rich folks who yearn for the (idealized) medieval centuries, and who are More Catholic Than The Pope.
Ripe for comedy.

"Like counterfeit currency, homosexual 'marriage' is not true marriage. It is morally wrong, sinful, offensive to God and a violation of natural law,"
That should just about do it I'm sure.
I think we need to take up a collection to send a few hundred Mormon missionaries to Maine to campaign for the referendum.
There's nothing Mainers hate more than outsiders telling them how to run their lives (my grandmother was one). The more money and resources that outside groups pour into the state, the less chance the referendum has of passing.
And I'm not sure how much sway the RC hierarchy has over its membership.
"To claim that marriage can be anything other than the union of one man and one woman is a flat denial of reality,"
Then the Bible denies reality:
Jacob married both Rachel and Leah.
Samuel's father had at least two wives.
There was a young fellow named Dice
Who remarked, "They say bigamy’s nice.
Even two are a bore,
I’d prefer three or four,
For the plural of spouse, it is spice."
"... the protection of Property"?
Why didn't they tell the ACNE people?
"Like counterfeit currency, homosexual 'marriage' is not true marriage," said TFP spokesman John Ritchie.
So stop calling it "marriage" you prat. Civil Partnership is NOT marriage.
Ooooh, they make me so MAD!
