FULFILLING THE NEEDS OF RICH PEOPLE

From MY SA NEWS:

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Conservationists slammed a government plan Wednesday that would allow Indonesians to keep endangered Sumatran tigers as pets if they give a $100,000 deposit and build a large enough enclosure.

It is an open secret that many wealthy people illegally keep tigers in Indonesia, where owning the large cats is seen as a status symbol, though the number held is not known. They also have been known to decorate their homes with tiger skins and heads.

"We hope that this program will eradicate poaching as a means of fulfilling a high demand by rich people in Indonesia ... who want to have tigers as pets or dead tigers for their home decoration," said the government's head of protection and conservation, Darori.

COMMENT: Kill the rich.

  1. Perhaps we could decorate our homes with the skins and heads of the rich.

Yeah, just let the tigers have them for awhile!

  3. What about letting the tigers vet the owners in a petting zoo sort of get acquainted? Any rich Indonesian who can convince the tiger to be a kitty could take it home. ;-)

  5. I get the rich's loot.

Erm? But that means you would then be rich and we would have to feed you to the tigers.

  6. There are about 400 Sumatran tigers (which are magnificently beautiful) left altogether in the wild. As far as I can see this scheme doesn't make anyone involve them in a breeding programme in order to try to preserve their existence. It seems they're about to die out, just as they are in India.

  7. But money is the root of all evil, so I'm doing you a favor by taking it away from you. See, these filthy rich people couldn't handle it, right, and you certainly don't want to end up in the same place as they did. So I'll carry that burden for you in a most sacrificial fashion and spare you the temptation.

    A grand idea.

  8. Nice try, Our Trace. But, sorry and all that, you will be first against the wall.

    Nothing personal, of course.
