MADPRIEST'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

In the Church of England you have to climb all the way up to the office of diocesan bishop before you can tell people what to do.

  1. ...and expect them to do it.

    A small but significant addendum.

  2. In TEC that is the level where they do not do what you tell them.

  3. Actually, if you hold the "Living" the Diocesan Bishop can instruct, but you can ignore them .... though you might have to justify your actions and fight your corner ....

  4. I hadn't noticed lack of preferment has silenced most of my Anglican friends.

  5. In the Episcopal Cburch we rejoice in the ministry of bishops(and where would we be without the old darlings), but they can no more tell us what to do than can presbyteries or conclaves of laity; it takes all of us. Not all of our current and former bishops understand this (ref. -Bob Duncan).

  6. Or, not become ordained at all.... Laity can tell bishops and priests alike what to do...
