Sex & God & Rock & Roll
To steal from fellow parishioner Alan Justice: Suffragan Succotash!
I reminded our good friend Alan to list when he says this. And remember to spit.
So where do the liberal 'church' draw a moral line?Us bigoted, unloving, dogmatic, evangelicals draw our moral line directly from the teachings of the bible. If five consenting men wanted to live together in a committed, loving, sexual relationship is that OK with the liberals, and more importantly is that Ok with God?For us evangelicals the answer quite simply it would not be Ok.Where do you guys draw the line?
I can't talk for liberals because I'm not one. But personally, I think anything outside of a life long, committed relationship between two people is likely to cause harm to another person and to cause harm is immoral.
Five men living together is, as far as I know, not supported by the Biblical text. But a man having 700 wives and 300 concubines is Bibically approved (I Kings 11:3). The problem with the conservatives is they really don't believe in Biblical marriage.
Lazarus, It is a fair question if you assume first that the church must be the inscriber of lines and second that there is a "Biblical" marriage one can use as a boundary. Here is a big hint, "You shall not commit adultery" is in the section of the 10 biggies dealing with property. Marriage as we practice it is very modern and post Biblical.TEC at least is clear, it considers appropriate, relationships that are faithful, monogamous and equitable. I don't think there is a lot of room to argue about those words. It may be possible for someone to posit a multi-member family that could meet the essentials but no one to my knowlege, other than some really obsessed evangelicals, has.FWIWjimB
If five consenting men wanted to live together in a committed, loving, sexual relationship is that OK with the liberals, and more importantly is that Ok with God?It's certainly O.K. with me but thye'd have to check with the landlord or the strata corporate. I suspect God would see it as an unlikely triumph over the human tendency to rivalry and pettiness. Ring any bells Lazarus?
I have rejected Lazarus' most recent comment as he is, as I thought he would turn out to be, nothing but a concern troll.
Yep. I was right. He has responded to the above with the bog standard accusations about intolerance. They are so tediously boring. I expect this troll is one of our old "friends."
Speaking of boring, I have a question: the adapted Simpsons cartoon was a play on "2d bishop", in the sense of a cartoon being "two-dimensional"?Thanks. Me Slow this Friday evening...[But not so slow that I couldn't tell that the Scare-Quotes around church ('church') automatically indicated a troll!]
Yes, JCF. Of course, a real Simpsons' fan would also see the allusion to the Tree House Of Horror episode where Homer slips through in to a 3 dimensional world and ends up in a "real" world pub.
So where do the liberal 'church' draw a moral line?Us bigoted, unloving, dogmatic, evangelicals draw our moral line directly from the teachings of the bible. At idiocy.Ooops! You're over!Bye. And, if you're Lazarus, I don't know why Jesus bothered.
