THE PRAYER LIST

Marva Wright has died at the ridiculously young age of 62. Not only was she a fine singer of the blues and gospel music she was also a truly fine woman who worked hard to resurrect the city of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Grandmère Mimi has an obituary up at WOUNDED BIRD that you all should read. Whilst you do so, here's a few of her recordings that should blow away any cobwebs cluttering up your heads this morning.

***

Our friend, the Cunning Runt of LITTLE BANG THEORY, is down with the blues at the moment - work stuff, that sort of thing. He's a good, gentle bloke and the bastards are really out to get him down. So, please pray for him and especially that he may enjoy security of employment and a better working environment.

Money raised so far for charity = $6.20.
Don't forget it is up to you to give your part of this to the charity of your own choice whenever you feel like doing so.

Saint Mary and Saint Gabriel pray for us.

  2. And you had Marva's songs in your collection?

The lady was larger than life in every way. She's standing on a cloud now belting for De Lawd and the folks in heaven. They won't find her too loud.

  3. Yes. I played you some tracks off "After The Levee Broke" a couple of years back. I remember you commented on them.

  6. Ditto to what Ellie said. I've never seen this one before. I love it. Who painted it?

  7. Having done some investigating, it's a picture by a contemporary American Roman Catholic artist named John Collier. His bio may be seen here. As far as I can tell, the painting is located at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, McKinney, Texas, which appears to have several of his works (or at least post a number of them on its website).
