From UPI.COM:
MIGORI, Kenya -- An Anglican clergyman in Kenya said
members of his congregation who don't have voting cards
will no longer be offered holy communion. Canon Walter
Okeyo of the Migori Parish told a voter registration
workshop organized by the Civil Society Organization
that members of his church will have to obtain voter
identification cards before they can receive communion.
"It will be a condition in my church that you first show
me your voter's card before receiving holy communion,"
he told the meeting.

Oh, good grief.
ReplyDelete(Sigh. Deep, deep sigh.)
Oh, and I meant to say before:
ReplyDeleteGreat headline.
Great picture-toon.
Really wacko idea!
ReplyDeleteSo I guess no children are going to receive communion or any visitors from outside the country.
ReplyDeleteKenya? Sounds like Arizona to me.
ReplyDeleteKenya is Arizona without the guns
ReplyDeleteI understood that this goof is not anti-immigrant but rather is trying to get people to vote. Besides who in their right mind would want to immigrate to Central Africa?
ReplyDeleteSo the Arizona comparison may be slightly unfair. On the other hand, if we can send the Arizona guns to their next house of bishops meeting......
FWIW
jimB
a good motive, but wrong action!
ReplyDeleteNij
wv - nutsma - Short for "The idea is nuts to me." What happened to welcoming the least and children?
ReplyDelete"Just then one of the twelve slipped away. He realised he'd forgotten his voters card."
ReplyDeleteHa!
ReplyDeleteOh, Boaz. That's painful.
ReplyDeleteAnd really, really good!
And, of course, it's Sunday for Boaz.
ReplyDeleteThe man is incorrigible!
True. But what would we do without him? :-)
ReplyDeleteTrue. Life would not be worth living.
ReplyDeleteI'm so very glad you're clear about your priorities, MadPriest. It's an inspiration to the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteQuite right MP. In fact I've just dropped all the kids up there and the main gig starts in 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteSomeone seems to have skipped the seminary lesson on "Rendering to Caesar what is Caesar's" etc.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear. Cannon Walter Okeyo appears to be the poster child for "Didn't Quite Get the Point."
ReplyDelete*Facepalm*
ReplyDeleteI wish people would stop holding Communion hostage. My biggest gripe with the church, I think, is that officially there are still barriers (even if some people do have an open table).
