Smiley Lewis was the first to record and have a hit with the song. But I, being just a young whippersnapper, first came across it when Dave Edmunds recorded his more uptempo version back in the late 70s.

ReplyDeleteSo I read. I don't remember hearing Lewis' recording back in the day, and Fats followed close behind him, so that's the version I remember and cherish and still play.
