From THE NEW YORK TIMES:
Indonesia’s highest Islamic authority has followed up a series of contentious edicts with a new one barring Muslims from watching television gossip shows or having sex-change operations. The authority, the Indonesian Ulema Council, said gossip shows about the intimate details of people’s private lives — a popular genre on Indonesian television — were immoral and threatened society.

"edicts ... barring Muslims from ... having sex-change operations"
ReplyDelete@sshats. ("Worse than Iran": I HOPE that's an appropriate severe insult to Indonesia!)
Banning gossip TV will accomplish............what? I am sure that the Indonesian public, like all other humans, will be able to generate gossip the old-fashioned way. What's next, banning water coolers?
ReplyDeleteOf course, the TV producers could just invent gossip about fictional characters and call it "soap opera".
P.S. I admit that I am curious about the opera "Jerry Springer".
1. The world would be a better place if more Muslims had sex change operations.
ReplyDelete2. They're probably right about television gossip shows.
I think that there is a shortage of dermatologists in Indonesia, some of these guys have really bad complexion problems.
ReplyDeleteDah-veed, I have re-read your comment maybe three or four times and every single time it has made me laugh.
