Sex & God & Rock & Roll
Thanks for the great laugh this morning!
Yippee! A great caption. And great photo of the most wonderful woman in the Episcopal Church. Oh ... and nice to see Katharine there, too.
Lisa! Not only did you use a naughty word earlier today, but now your flirting. What on earth has got into you, woman?!!!
Ann practically ran the whole show. When Ann talks, people listen, even people in high places.
Yes. There aren't many of us who will risk her wrath. And those of us who dare live a long way away.
That wasn't flirting, MP. That was admiration.
Of course. You have no doubt noticed that I'm always admiring the women round these parts.
Which round parts, MP? ;-)
You should offer to be Ann's personal stylist, KJ.
I'm thinking shades.
Let's get off the sexism stuff, please. I see two clergy folks in this photo. One a priest to whom I would trust my life. And one a bishop who asked me and many others to "stand in a crucified place." It will be a long time before I reach the spiritual maturity to forgive the latter.
And P.S.: Katharine was fortunate to serve with our Ann.
I see no sexism on this thread. We may be being a little camp, but heck, this is OCICBW...
You're right, MP. It's more camp than sexism. Maybe I was wanting to bring the focus back to the two priests -- one a fine friend to us, and one suspect.
She's not suspect to me. I've had personal dealings with her and have no respect for her whatsoever. One of the boys as far as I'm concerned - just more of the same.
I bet I can guess what KJS wore for the occasion!
I've had personal dealings with her and have no respect for her whatsoever. Please enlighten us as to how it is that you, a priest of the Church of England, has had "personal dealings" with the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church - US based.
Please enlighten us as to how it is that you, a priest of the Church of England, has had "personal dealings" with the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church - US based.Ha! That was pretty much what she said to me.
Yes, our Ann rocks - no doubt.
In a thread filled with so much potential fun, I don't want to start too serious a discussion, and absolutely no debate, about mutually agreed upon past ecclesiastical foolishness, but have a few thoughts for which I'm sure you all long. I've had no dealings with the PB whatsoever, so have no personal assessment and, or course, followed the "crucified place" scenario with great concern. Now, I believe that +Katharine meant we as a province we were in a "crucified place," but even if that were not the case, I think those events had to occur, since they made it clear to many "middle of the roaders," that there would be nothing that we could do to appease our detractors. I believe that the PB, with all her faults, is a perfect symbol of the times, and for her, I pray. I'm enough of a mystic to believe that all things happen for a purpose, even if that purpose chaps our hide and is presently obscure.Having said that - poking fun at those in leadership is fair game, IMHO, and one of the great pleasures of live, but OCICBW...
KJ, I see much wisdom in what you say. The "crucified place" in GC06, however wrongheaded, led to the resurrection in GC09. I, too, see KJS as a symbol for the times.I'm enough of a mystic to believe that all things happen for a purpose, even if that purpose chaps our hide and is presently obscure.Me, too, KJ.I ask, "Would you rather have Rowan?"And now, back to our program of making fun of the powers.
I see much reason in your comments, KJ. But I don't remember KJS's "crucified place" comment as you do. Most of my friends heard it as her asking LGBTs to stand in that place -- NOT asking our church to stand there. Here's what I've learned: I trust Ann Fontaine and Ann's integrity without reservation. I have heard KJS willing to throw some people under the bus, if it will retain her/our place in the Anglican Communion. She's earned that credibility for me since 2006. Yes, I am grateful that KJS is our PB ... and especially that we have her instead of Rowan. But do I trust her as an ally? Nope.Give me a choice between Ann and KJS, and I'll always opt to have Ann in the room when important discussions are afoot. At least I know Ann's truly on our side ... with integrity ... and without a media machine to couch her words in EpiscoBabble.
How, exactly, was the whole church in a crucified place? Shesh... those are just spiritual sounding words which mean "throw the damn homos under the bus again and get me to lambeth." And that's not the only time.Ann, on the other hand, gets it.
