From THE WHITWORTHIAN:
"God hates the world..." was the melodic stream of music filling the streets on Oct. 21 as the Westboro Baptist Church protested Whitworth University. Counter protesters shouted their message of "God is Love" back; they were heard.
As the WBC picketers stood on the corner of Waikiki Road and Hawthorne Road, they faced outward toward the streets with signs reading "Thank God for Breast Cancer," "God Hates America," "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and many more controversial statements.
More than 150 Whitworth students, faculty and Spokane community members lined the opposing sidewalk with countering messages. Several elementary school buses drove by with children holding up paper hearts and signs reading "God is Love."
