QUEER GOINGS ON IN SPAIN

From THE MIRROR:

Hundreds of gay people will kiss each other in front of the Pope when he visits Spain next month. The demonstration, organised by Facebook group Queer Kissing Flashmob, is to protest against the Pope's alleged anti-gay views.

  1. His ALLEGED anti-gay views?!?!?!?!

What level of proof does one require?

  2. Now this is funny. I "get" the joke - at least, I think I do.

  3. Well, it made me laugh. Thanks, mimi.

  4. The joke made me laugh, too, and I guess that is the point, whether I "get" the joke as you meant it or not.

With the joke above this one, I had to look up "sarnies". What are the chances that I will find the meaning of sarnies and follow with, "Oh, bacon sarnies! Ha, ha, ha!"? Slim, I'd say. A joke is either funny in the first round, or it's not. There you have my philosophy of funny jokes.

That's not to say that you shouldn't have used "sarnies", as I'm sure it is widely understood.

  6. So, just what ARE 'sarnies?'? Even spell check doesn't recognize 'em!

    :>)

  7. That's funny!

Like Mimi, the "sarnies" threw me. I thought they would be some crap bacon flavoured crisp.

  8. Had the same reaction, Doxy. Alleged?! :-0

Um, isn't the point of a Flash Mob, is that you do NOT announce it (well) in advance? Dumb move, Queer Texting Spaniards...

  9. Well, maybe not so well understood after all.

  10. We have to learn your language to understand your TV and films. So you can learn a little bit of mine to understand my jokes. You coped with "bog standard," I'm sure "sarnie" will soon be in use in the better US delis before the year is out.

  11. Do another joke with sarnies, and maybe I'll laugh.

"Bog standard" speaks for itself. There's no learning curve involved.

  12. Darling, where you are involved, there is always a learning curve.
