The Rt. Rev. Griselda Delgado Del Carpio was installed as bishop of the Episcopal Church of Cuba during a Nov. 28 ceremony at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Havana.
Among those attending the ceremony were Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and Archbishop Fred Hiltz of the Anglican Church of Canada.
Of course, there is only one record that could possibly be played as a tribute to the new bishop, and here it is:

And no warning on the tune? No days off purgatory? Nothing to soften the blows?
ReplyDeleteWhat are you on about, Philistine dog?!!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
As I have said to myself so often on this blog ... Where DOES he find them?
ReplyDeleteI really don't get it. This is a classic American song by a classic American group, The Holy Modal Rounders.
ReplyDeletePhilistines! The lot of you.
Oh, not I, Jonathan. Not a Philistine. Just nauseous.
ReplyDeleteJust want to say that this woman looks like she could be one of my cousins. The nose. The high cheek bones. The long neck. Gotta be some Portuguese throwback in there somewhere.
(Ducks, waits for witty retort)
Yeah, TELP, you Iberians are some Hot Mamas! ;-)
ReplyDeleteBest good wishes for the bishop.
ReplyDeleteI see that once again the primate of the AC West Indies has managed to shirk his duty. Neither he, nor his recent predecessor, have participated in the Metropolitan Council for the extra-provential Diocese of Cuba for a number of years now. Cannot be bothered because That Woman, and That Canadian are also on the council, so the two of them have been doing all the heavy lifting.
But they have given Cuba the first three latina bishops, in quick succession, two suffragan and now a diocesan, formerly co-adjutor, in the history of Anglican Latin America.
Brava, Griselda!
ReplyDelete(I kinda like the song)
Yup. Classic group. (They were in Easy Rider, by the way.)
ReplyDeleteGreat tune!
I'm chuckling at this "interesting" tune. Very funny choice, MP.
ReplyDelete+Griselda was our guest at St. John's in Tallahassee this fall. The newspaper sent a photographer and it was quite the statement five years after the schism that rocked that parish to have photos of a women serving as bishops, priests, and eucharistic ministers on the front page of the local paper. I'm sure it made those who left to hold hands with Uganda very, very angry.
A different soundtrack for that occassion: Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin singing "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves".
Thank you, Ellie. It's good to know that the revolution is still remembered by at least one American.
