THE PRAYER LIST
It was Mrs MadPriest's birthday yesterday and we went out for a meal. I was late to bed and up at the crack of dawn for the early mass. So, as I'm too tired to trawl through the neighbourhood blogs today, please would you add your own prayers to the thread below. Thank you so much.

THE MIDNIGHT JUKEBOX

I think New York must be the place to be at the moment.
Especially if you appreciate pretty, young ladies with
beautiful voices. Only a week or so ago I introduced you
to a New York band called The Soft City that many of you
enjoyed and now here are four tracks from an album by a
band from that city that never sleeps which are really
rather gorgeous. And with this one there's a bonus - you
can all sing along to the first song.
Altogether now - Bom, bom, bom...

MADPRIEST FEATURED IN RELIGIOUS GUTTER PRESS
I don't know who wrote this story but he is certainly no Ruth Gledhill. In fact, I don't think even the word "journalist" is appropriate. As he cobbled the whole lot together from Ruth's blog and my blog, I think he may be a perfect fit for the word "hack."

MADPRIEST'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The most commonly employed literary references used by both the commenters and myself at OCICBW... do not allude to the Bible or to the Shakespearean opus, but to the complete works of Monty Python. I think that says a lot about the demographic of this neighbourhood.
YO, GRANDMA!
DJ Ruth is our
BRICK OF THE DAY
I'm trying to fix up a clash between DJ Ruth and MC Mimi.
I'll keep you informed of any developments.
Thanks to RAJM for sending this report in to MadPriest Towers.
THE STRANGE AND DANGEROUS
LOGIC OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has called for a complete ban on condom ads in the country. In a statement, CBCP President Nereo Odchimar said the condom business is a "multimillion dollar industry that heavily targets the adolescent market, at the expense of morality and family life."
"Condom advertisements should be banned in television, radio, movies, newspapers, magazines, and public places, as they desensitise the youth's delicate conscience and weaken their moral fibre as future parents," Odchimar said in a statement on the CBCP website.
He said condoms should be required to have warning labels that say "Condoms may fail to protect from AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases."
When they say that condom promotes safe sex, it also promotes contra-human values ... and in fact it even also promotes the AIDS virus," Archbishop Oscar Cruz said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
COMMENT: Of course, the bishops are right as usual. We all know that before condoms became readily available over the counter nobody had sex before marriage. In particular, young men were just not interested in such unnatural activities back then. They preferred to stay at home assembling their Airfix model kits and reading books on the daring exploits of missionaries and explorers. OCICBW... is convinced that the governments of the world are in cahoots with the condom manufacturers. It is obvious that all the reports showing a massive reduction in the number of people contacting H.I.V. after the safe sex campaigns of the 1980s were the invention of commie infiltrators and probably had something to do with the jews, as well. The truth is that the condom companies are deliberately tricking us all into catching AIDS so that we all die and they don't make anymore money.

FAMILY VALUES NOW INCLUDE
DIVORCE AND GAY CRUISING
From LEZGETREAL:
Around 2am Wednesday, March 3rd, California State Senator, Roy Ashburn (R-Bakersfield) was pulled over in his state-issued black Chevy Tahoe. There was an unidentified man travelling with the senator. Sources say the senator had just left the gay nightclub, Faces, when police noticed the car swerving dangerously and pulled him over.
He was arrested without incident and charged with two misdemenors: driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or higher. The unidentified man in the vehicle with Senator Ashburn was not detained. Senator Ashburn was released from the Sacramento County Jail on a $1,400 bond.
Roy Ashburn, who is the divorced father of four daughters, ran on a family-values platform and had voted against a bill to recognise out-of-state same sex marraiges, hosted a Traditional Values Coalition rally in Bakersfield, and received a perfect score of 100% on the Capitol Resource Family Impact scorecard for never voting yes to any equality legislation, ever.
COMMENT: OCICBW... is absolutely certain that this was a courageous research project carried out by Mr Ashburn to discover the full extent of teh gay agenda and its evil plan to kill all the little children. There is no way a US senator would blatantly lie about his sexuality just to get elected. That some people could even think such a thing is proof of just how extensively liberals and commies have brainwashed the God fearing, good people of America in their vile attempt to persuade them to be comfortable and honest about who they really are.

LOOK WHAT I'M DOING TO YOUR CARDINAL!
From CNA:
In a book of memoirs released in February, the noted Italian exorcist Fr. Gabriele Amorth affirmed that "Yes, also in the Vatican there are members of Satanic sects." When asked if members of the clergy are involved or if this is within the lay community, he responded, "There are priests, monsignors and also cardinals!"
The book, "Father Amorth. Memoirs of an Exorcist. My life fighting against Satan." was written by Marco Tosatti, who compiled it from interviews with the priest.
Fr. Amorth was asked by Tosatti how he knows Vatican clergy are involved. He answered, "I know from those who have been able to relate it to me because they had a way of knowing directly. And it's something 'confessed' most times by the very demon under obedience during the exorcisms."
Fr. Jose Antonio Fortea Cucurull, a Spanish priest and theologian who specializes in demonology, responded to Fr. Amorth's assertions. After reading reports of Fr. Amorth's accusations pointing a finger at members of the clergy, including cardinals, Fr. Fortea declared that it is a "duty of justice" to speak out in their defense. Noting that some prelates "are more spiritual and others more earthly, some more virtuous and others more human," he wrote on his blog, "from there to affirm that some cardinals are members of Satanic sects is an unacceptable distance."
Fr. Fortea also defended those implicated in Fr. Amorth's statements, stating, "Our College of Cardinals, if we compare it with past centuries is the most edifying and virtuous that history has ever known. One would have to go back to the epoch of the Roman Empire to find a body of electors so distanced from all earthly pretension as the current one is.
"Cardinals might be better or worse," he reflected, "but all have upright intentions and seek the glory of God."

What do you believe?
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
First the bad news. THEY are on to us.
But the good news is that they have not yet traced our cunning plan back to our BELOVED LEADER hiding out in the badlands of Louisiana.

THE LAST DINNER PARTY

Lorna May Wadsworth's new work will hang behind the altar
at ST. GEORGE'S CHURCH, Nailsworth. But first it will be
exhibited in St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square,
from Thursday 4th March until Easter Sunday, 4th April. It's a
bit too right on and yuppie for me but then Wadsworth is often
referred to as the Labour Party's artist in residence.
The Grand Tufti likes it.

A TIME TO GATHER STONES TOGETHER
The inclusive church movement is going through a purple patch at the moment. There are enough positive things happening to give us cause to, at least, contemplate that the snowball is gathering momentum and, even, hope more realistically that we will see a tangible justice within our lifetimes.
The gay hate bill before the Ugandan government has been roundly condemned by the international community but last week protests against it started to take shape in Uganda itself. The bravery of these prophets in their own land adds enormous value to the universal campaign against the superstitious power abusers who would lay such a vile injustice on their own people.
The passing of the bill that will allow same sex marriages to take place in English places of worship is another huge breakthrough. The fact that so many church people, up to and including those with the rank of bishop, plus leaders from other religions, used its passage through the House of Lords to pin their true and supportive colours to the post is particularly telling.
But there is a lot of other stuff going down away from the direct control of the Anglican Head Office that is very interesting. Last week a group of five, inclusive minded, Canadian bishops met with five, not exactly inclusive but definitely open minded, bishops from Africa at Lambeth. This meeting was part of an ongoing conversation initiated by those concerned that had already seen the exchange of much theological correspondence between the dioceses concerned.
Of course, it is too early to expect great, world changing pronouncements to issue forth from such meetings but they will come eventually. We know from experience that change always comes from the grass roots and is taken up by the powerful when they perceive political advantage in doing so. Ironically, these conversations come out of the Grand Tufti's imposition of small group conversations at the various synods and conferences he has been responsible for over the last few years. Unfortunately, it appears that the only negative aspect of last week's meeting of bishops was the attitude of the important people from Head Office who sat in on some of the sessions. These people talked at the delegates and left far too little time to listen to them. Also, they are showing a definite antagonism towards the idea of such initiatives taking place outside of their control. They want conversation, or so they say, but they also wish to be in control of who talks to who and where and when. But such centrally controlled debate has been shown to be manipulative and bogus by the appointment in the past of such people as Archbishop Gomez as head of the covenant enforcement group and Phil Groves as facilitator of the "listen to me process." The dominance of such people in the Grand Tufti's appointments leads me, personally, to assume that there is a definite loading of the debate and process in favour of extreme conservatives. But the bishops of the Communion are not all stupid and the more worldly wise ones have sussed out what is going on. And these same bishops are not sycophants either. So it was obvious from the beginning that they would eventually start conversations away from the heavy handed control of the movers and shakers of Head Office.

THE POINT AT WHICH MADPRIEST
STARTS BLUBBING LIKE A GIRLIE
The crowd at OCICBW... have helped quite a few people over the last few years by generously giving from their own, often limited, resources. Our greatest achievement has to be the campaign where we raised over $10000 for the Church of Christ the King and their mission among the people of the City of God in Rio. Therefore, this email that I have just received means a heck of lot to me. We are just a bunch of bog standard people but together we have changed the world and made it a better place. Thank you all so much for letting me be a part of this wonderful, still evolving, adventure.

MADPRIEST'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Far more scientists, who were later proved to be right, have been hauled up before academic inquisitions and then crucified than have been hauled up before religious inquisitions. Galileo had it easy. At least his persecutors weren't a bunch of nobel prize chasing bitches.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
"If Jesus had not existed, the Catholic church would never have invented him. Jesus of Nazareth is a colossal embarrassment to the Catholic church … The Roman Catholic church tell us to bow our heads, to take orders, and to be afraid … Rome stands between the individual and the sky, blocking the light."

I DIDN'T REALISE AUSTRALIA WAS SO BACKWARD
Christian schools are concerned that a South Australian board decision to stop the teaching of creationism as part of science lessons will trigger similar action nationwide. The chief executive of Christian Schools Australia, Stephen O'Doherty, said a statement by the South Australian Non-Government Schools Registration Board was too strident, removing the right to teach "biblical perspectives" as part of science, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. He said the policy set a precedent which might be taken up in other states, including NSW, where the issue had been the subject of intense debate two years ago
Under policies published in December, the board said it required "teaching of science as an empirical discipline, focusing on inquiry, hypothesis, investigation, experimentation, observation and evidential analysis". It said it "does not accept as satisfactory a science curriculum in a non-government school which is based on, espouses or reflects the literal interpretation of a religious text in its treatment of either creationism or intelligent design". Furthermore, science teaching which was not scientifically or evidence-based would not be part of assessment for the School Certificate or Higher School Certificate.
Mr O'Doherty said the South Australian policy indicated it was banning teaching of the subject altogether. It was the only such subject singled out, he said. Taken literally, "it means you cannot mention the Bible in science classes", he is cited saying.
COMMENT: Of course, the Board is being perfectly logical and sensible. Religious hypothesis has no place in a science class. However, science and even empirical data should be questioned and, especially, by scientists themselves. In England, at the moment, there is a very heavy bias towards science, technology and business in our schools and we are in danger of turning out a generation of boring techies (as opposed to interesting, free-thinking, creative techies, of which there are many, especially around this neighbourhood). In my opinion, philosophy should be made a core subject at an early age, so that children are given the thinking tools they will need to question everything as they grow up. This will lead to better science as no great scientific discovery has even been made by a person who just accepted what they were told by their teachers.

SLOWLY, SLOWLY, CATCHY MONKEY
From THE MAIL:
Gay couples will be able to marry in church after the House of Lords last night lifted a ban on same sex unions in religious premises. The vote wipes out one of the final distinctions between marriage and civil partnerships.
The amendment to the Equality Bill does not force churches to accept civil partnership ceremonies. But it lifts the barrier that had been in place preventing homosexual blessings in churches and also the prohibition on religious language being used in such ceremonies.
The Church of England will maintain its official opposition to blessings and civil partnerships but the vote is likely to mean that some pro-gay clergy simply ignore the official policy.
Lord Alli denied that his amendment was ‘an attack’ on the Church of England or the Catholic Church. He said: ‘Religious freedom cannot begin and end with what one religion wants."
The former Bishop of Oxford Lord Harries denied the amendment would undermine marriage. He said: ‘It actually strengthens marriage. The real enemy in our society is promiscuity, not permanent faith-based relationships.’
But the Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Rev David James, who voted against the change warned of "unintended consequences".
The amendment has still to be agreed by the Commons but neither of the main parties is likely to overturn the Lords decision, since it was offered as a free vote.
COMMENT: This is a huge victory for justice and equality. Inclusive minded Church of England priests will now start quietly conducting wedding ceremonies for same sex couples (and, yes, they will be real marriages) as they have the backing of English law and an established church is subject to the law of the land in a very organic way (you see, there are some advantages!). There is no way this gay genii will be pushed back into the bottle. Well done, Your Lordship. Well done everybody!

A COUPLE OF POEMS FROM
FLUFFYSNUGGLES' MOM
A WOMAN'S POEM:
Before I lay me down to sleep,
I pray for a man who's not a creep,
One who's handsome, smart and strong.
One who loves to listen long,
One who thinks before he speaks,
One who'll call, not wait for weeks.
I pray he's rich and self-employed,
And when I spend, won't be annoyed.
Pull out my chair and hold my hand.
Massage my feet and help me stand..
Oh send a king to make me queen.
A man who loves to cook and clean.
I pray this man will love no other.
And relish visits with my mother.

ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH GIVES
UP ON CHRISTIANITY COMPLETELY
Letter from Catholic Charities president and CEO to staff
Monday, March 1, 2010; 6:44 PM
Dear Staff,
I am writing to you to inform you of an important change to our group health care benefit plan that will take effect on March 2, 2010 due to a change in the law of the District of Columbia. It is important to note that the existing health coverage of current employees will not be affected by the change. New employees and current employees requesting revisions in benefit coverage will be affected by this change.
Catholic Charities will continue to honor the health plan coverage that current employees have as of March 1, 2010. As of March 2, a new plan will be in effect that will cover new employees and requests for benefit changes by current employees. The new plan will provide the same level of coverage for employees and their dependents that you now have, with one exception: spouses not in the plan as of March 1 will not be eligible for coverage in the future. If your spouse currently has coverage in our Plan, he/she may continue to be covered by the health benefit plan, even if you later add a dependent or decide to change your option level (e.g., change from low option to high option).
We sincerely regret that we have to make this change, but it is necessary to allow Catholic Charities to continue to provide essential services to the clients we serve in partnership with the District of Columbia while remaining consistent with the tenets of our religious faith.
A summary of the Plan modification has been mailed to you at your home address. If you have any questions on this matter, please e-mail your Human Resources manager or, if you do not have access to email, call. Please remember, this change does not impact your current coverage in any way.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter, and let me again express my appreciation for your support and patience over these past months as we have worked hard to arrive at a decision that allows us to continue to serve others in a manner that is consistent with our religious beliefs.
Edward J. Orzechowski
President & CEO
Oh, how absolutely spiteful. To call this childish and petulant would be an insult to both children and the petulant. This is evil..

Oh, how absolutely spiteful. To call this childish and petulant would be an insult to both children and the petulant. This is evil..
... And illogical. If they really do "love the sinner and hate the sin," then they can insure "the sinner" without prejudicing their beliefs. This would be loving to "the sinner." To exclude "the sinner" from health cover is a hateful action. Would Catholic charities refuse shelter to a prostitute or food to a homeless drug addict? Of course, they would not. So are they saying that being gay is an unforgivable sin far greater than selling your body or injecting heroin? Of course, they are. As I said, this is evil, petulant and spiteful.

From THE TELEGRAPH:
What is believed to be the first ever example of English in a British church has been discovered. But now it seems no one can quite decipher exactly what the inscription on the wall of Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire actually says.
It was hidden for 350 years behind a monument to a local aristocrat who was 'martyred' in the English Civil War for his support of King Charles I but rediscovered in January by astonished conservators. And baffled experts have resorted to asking members of the public with a keen eye for deciphering puzzles to have a look at the text, and a computer-enhanced version, to see if they can help out.
So, there you have it. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with the words you think MIGHT have been written on a church wall in England five hundred years ago.

FROM THE SOAPS
From SUNDAY NEWS:
The story of Roman Catholic priests breaking their celibacy vows is a tired tale, but in Bulawayo’s suburb of Tshabalala the narrative is made more intriguing by angry radical church youths who voiced their displeasure against their Holy Cross Parish priest for allegedly having a girlfriend by writing graffiti on the church’s wall a fortnight ago. The graffiti that has since been covered with white paint painted the youthful Father Norbert Nyathi as a womaniser and an abuser of church funds, allegations that the man of the cloth strongly denied. The statement on the wall read: “Norbert you used our tithe and offering money to take Mimi (Abigail Miti) for a holiday in Durban. Go and leave us in peace, you don’t deserve to be a priest! You are a tribalist and a womaniser!”
Such accusations did not go down well with Father Norbert who is said to have wanted to take the suspected radical youths to task, but was made to see reason by Bishop Alex Thomas who calmed tempers.
In an interview last Thursday Father Norbert who was visibly jittery denied that he was involved in a sexual relationship with Abigail and the other unnamed string of women he was linked to.
The Sunday Leisure has in its possession a copy of a statement issued by the man of God in which he alleges that this paper is involved in a conspiracy to tarnish his image. “These malicious accusations are unfounded, based on palpable hatred and hasty generalisations. It is a pity that I belong to the wrong tribe; hence I am termed a tribalist. This is clearly a tribal war. These pseudo-Catholics who reported have a satanic agenda and are using your paper as a tool to actualise their lucific agenda. Unfortunately, you are working hand and glove with them... These people are not only destroying me in person, but the whole Catholic Church and are tarnishing its image.”
Father Norbert once angered women in church when he told them to dress properly because he is also human and has feelings, revealed a member of the church’s executive on condition of anonymity.

At least they know he's not gay.
NOT SO FUNKY NASSAU
From THE FREEPORT NEWS:
A group of local pastors is speaking out against a cruise ship carrying homosexual passengers that is expected to call on Bahamian ports. In a joint statement released over the weekend, Pastors Lyall Bethel, Allan Lee, Cedric Moss and Alfred Stewart responded to what they called a recent announcement that a cruise ship may once again be bringing hundreds of homosexual passengers to New Providence.
"We, as Bahamian pastors who are concerned about upholding the morality and decency of our Judeo-Christian heritage, take this opportunity to reaffirm our position regarding such events that have the potential of impacting that heritage in a lasting negative manner," said the statement.
"In accordance with the clear teaching of Scripture, we reiterate that homosexuality and lesbianism is a sin. However, we welcome all people to our shores as long as they are willing to obey our laws, respect our values, and not mock them by openly flaunting social behaviour that are contrary to them. Knowing that we risk being misunderstood, we hasten to say that we are in no way hateful of homosexuals and lesbians; to the contrary, we love them," the statement read.

BAMBI IS THE ANTICHRIST
I love the way he starts off this part of his sermon by
condemning consumerism and then, a couple of minutes
later, starts listing all the expensive electrical equipment
he has in his house.
PRYING IN THE CHAPEL
From DUTCH NEWS:
On Sunday, dozens of gay men and women attended mass at the St Jan cathedral in Den Bosch to protest at the local bishop's decision to exclude homosexuals from the ceremony. And many of them left the church is a noisy protest after priest Geertjan van Rossem told the congregation that in order to receive communion people needed to have the 'correct' experience of sexuality.
'Homosexuals are welcome in the church. But we ask practising homosexuals not to take part in communion out of respect for the sacrament,' he said'.
The protest follows the refusal of a local priest to give communion to the carnival prince in the nearby small town of Reusel during the pre-Lent celebrations. The decision caused an uproar and led to newspaper Gaykrant urging gay Catholics to head to Reusel en masse and attend church. The refused communion to everyone who attended the service - regulars and newcomers alike.

AS IF THE TRUTH ISN'T INTERESTING ENOUGH
Personally I think it wise not to dance on the graves of your enemies until they are dead and buried. Otherwise you may end up looking a complete fool. Of course, this should not be a worry for David Ould who has proved himself foolish so many times already that a bit more pie in the face is hardly going to tarnish his reputation. Proof of this if needed can be found in his obituary for me at SFIF today, from which I give you this gem:

Of course, I have never presided at a same sex blessing in my life and would not do so without the explicit permission of my bishop. As I have said many times before, I fight to change the law and I personally believe that my voice is stronger if I do not disregard the law. It's all about moral high ground, something David Ould has no personal experience of.
Am I going to sue for libel? Of course, not. I am satisfied by simply laughing in his face.
But look at this comment to Ould's post:

These people actually believe that God engineered the painful death of his own son. It's difficult enough getting your head around the concept of God allowing the inevitable murder of his child by human beings. But to go through life with the sick idea that God hammered the nails in at Christ's crucifixion must give you a real distorted view of what love is all about. And, of course, the proof, as they say, is in the pudding (or in the puddings).

A LATE NIGHT PRAYER REQUEST
I have no idea what the Anglican Independent Communion is, although I can guess roughly what it's about. But that's neither here nor there. This is real anguish and my heart aches for the archbishop and all those in his situation.
From KYPOST:
Archbishop Gerald Dante Mino says when he heard of the massive earthquake crippling Chile, his heart went down to his toes. He serves the Anglican Independent Communion and its St. James Church in Concepcion, Chile.
He has been trying desperately to contact someone--anyone--from his congregation in the second largest city in the South American country.
"When I heard on the news that they found 300 children dead, I don't know if they're from our orphanage. All communication lines are down," said Mino.
He added that the news report showed his church had been destroyed. He has been in contact with church leaders in Rome, Africa and North America. No one has been able to get through to members of St. James Church.
Mino moved to Cincinnati for health reasons and serves as liason for church business worldwide via the Internet. He is working to establish a local relief effort through PNC Bank.

I found some of these records whilst excavating the site

MADPRIEST LUVS RUTH
I have had to tell some of you off more than just a few times in the past for dissing Ruth Gledhill, the Times religion correspondent. I have had to point out to you that she is a journalist working for the man and that you have to accept that. And she is a bloody good journalist. That video I posted the other month where she got that bishop to answer a question, that he should not have answered, without him even realising what he was doing, was one of the finest pieces of reporting skill I have ever come across. It was like watching Gielgud playing Hamlet. She is also the only blogging journalist truly committed to blogging and she gives far more to the community than any other journalist. I hope she has got plenty of good stuff from us in return.
So I regard HER POST on my present situation on her blog today (which was not of my instigation) as one of the greatest compliments I have ever been paid. I think it will help me get a job and, if it does not, it has given me such a boost that damn the lot of them - someone good at her job has said that I'm good at my job. That's the sort of thing that can get you through all sorts of crap.
I've posted a comment on Ruth's blog that you might like to check out.

THE DVANT DISCO

We continue the loud phase we're going through, that kicked
off yesterday with the blistering performance of "Louie Louie,"
with four tracks off the latest album by post punk/ art rock /
electronica super group, Githead. The band includes the
legendary Scanner, Colin Newman out of Wire and a couple of
other bods. Together they rock with an energy and tightness
usually found only in seasoned American rock bands.
DRESSED TO KILL
From TYPICALLY SPANISH:
A two year old dog died, strangled by its own coat, during a dog show in Madrid on Friday. It was one of the participants in the PROPET fair where stray dogs from the animal protection groups ALBA and El Refugio took part along with dogs presented by breeders.
Some of the animals wore jackets, overcoats and pyjamas from the ‘Dog Model’ company.
The President of El Refugio, Nacho Paunero, said that he was not a supporter of this type of clothing or shows. ‘These are the possible consequences of wanting to humanize our animals’, he said.

GULF WIDENS BETWEEN ISLAMIC STATES
From THE BBC:
The Islamic Solidarity Games, due to be held in Iran in April, have been called off because of a dispute with Arab countries over what to call the Gulf. The games federation in Saudi Arabia said the Iranian organisers had failed to address its concerns, particularly about the planned logo and medals. These bear the words "Persian Gulf", but Arab countries, who call it the Arabian Gulf, reject the term.

COMMENT: It is, of course, as everybody knows, the Persian Gulf, because that's what the English call it.

SYDNEY CATHOLICS ORGANISE
TO STOP WORSHIP OF GOD
From THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD:
On Friday nights, gay Catholics from across Sydney attend St Joseph's in Newtown. Like all Catholics, they take Communion during mass and tea after it. They have done so for years, with the quiet support of the deeply conservative Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell.
But this week St Joseph's gay ministry was threatened by a Catholic group set up on Facebook who vowed to stop its ''sacrilegious gay masses''. Last night the group protested at the church, bringing attention to this small forum of compromise forged between the doctrine that condemns homosexuals' sex lives and the faith they love.
St Joseph's priest, Father Peter Maher, said ''there is nothing in the Catholic faith that says gays and lesbians don't have rights to take communion''.

COMMENT: I am, to put it mildly, extremely worried. There is only so much one can do with a pair of lips in the kissing department. Over the last 25 years Mrs MadPriest and myself have done quite a bit of kissing. My great concern is that we might have inadvertently engaged in a homosexual kiss and, therefore, be condemned to an eternity being frazzled in the fires of hell.
So, please, could somebody tell me what a homosexual kiss is exactly? Then I can avoid doing it at all costs. I will also be able to instruct the church wardens at my church to keep a watch at our services to make sure there is none of this vile practice going on under our righteous noses. We must act now or, before too long, there will be homosexual cuddling in our pews and all the married couples in our churches will get divorced and kill their children.
