CHRISTIAN POETRY IS SO GAY

Poets are a queer lot as are the readers of OCICBW.... So, the following may be of interest to some of you.

From JESUS IN LOVE BLOG:

An open and affirming Christian poetry contest is being sponsored by NUWINE PRESS, an independent publishing company offering fresh perspectives on Christianity. The deadline is March 15 and winners will be featured in an upcoming book.

  1. While I haven't heard about this competition, I have certain reservations about similar things. I took part in a project this January to write a short piece daily and then submit my 10 best for a book. Only after I had submitted the pieces, I clicked to the fact that the organisers were basically getting free content and proabably buyers for the book, on the basis that most people would buy a book that contained something they'd written.
Not precisely a scam but definitely not open and honest, as the contributers get nothing but the satisfaction of having something(about five lines, if mine was anything to go by) in a book.
You can call me a cynic but I have no intention of buying or of suggesting anyone else buy. Some contests I have entered, each entrant gets a copy of the previous year's winner.

  2. You’re right that winners are not promised more than the satisfaction of being in the book… but that satisfaction may well be very great because there are so few places that publish LGBT-affirming Christian poetry.

Before posting the announcement on the Jesus in Love Blog, I did check out and correspond with Aimee Maude Sims, the woman behind NuWine Press. She is a genuine poet herself, expressing her woman-loving Christian views in some beautiful writing that I posted with the contest announcement.

Madpriest, thanks for linking to the Jesus in Love Blog, and best wishes to you!
