And I love these sort of surprises.
Firstly, a sweet, old lady from South Louisiana sent me a CD from Amazon (that's the company, Amazon, not the rain forest - she doesn't live that far south).
This record won the Grammy for "Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album" this year. Check out why by clicking on play:

And, as if that wasn't excitement enough, Joe sent me a mixtape (well, mixCD to be exact) featuring a load of bands from L.A. All great stuff. Here's three I particularly like and others will turn up on With All Your Soul and at St. Laika's in the near future.
The Last Fool - Orgone
Thousand Ways - The Tallest Man On Earth
Chicago Falcon - The Budos Band

At the risk of sounding cheeky, I cherish your Chubby!

Really, Zydeco can be shallow and repetitious, but Chubby's background in Rock and Soul brings a lot of depth to this stuff, which at times echoes the complexity of Funk.
Which is to say, I dug it!!
Brilliant, CR! That'll cheer up a certain Southern lady. Which is good news for me.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Thank you, Southern Lady - and you, too, MP for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, y'all. The guitar player, Randy Ellis, grew up right here in Thibodaux.
ReplyDeleteMadPriest, I thought you'd never share. I love "Jalapeno Lena". I do. She's a woman after my own heart.
I like the L.A. music, too.
MadPriest, I thought you'd never share.
ReplyDeleteI did explain.
Yes, you did explain, MadPriest, and you had a good reason.
ReplyDeleteLOve it! Ruth and I saw Rockin Dopsie and the Twisters when they toured Australia in 1992. They were fantastic. I love Zydeko. Thanks Mimi.
