Ellie, I learned it from its author, Bill Staines and he says "critters" so I guess that is official. ;-) Still it sings well either way. Staines also wrote my favorite modern folk song, which I play whenever I am at an ASCAP so I know he will get paid, "River." A beautiful, lovely, special song.
Thank you Susan and M.P. This makes me laugh and think of a much-loved former Rector. It was one of his favorites. I always think of him when I hear it.
Well, I thought the black and white goggie might be yours!
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE this song. I have performed it myownself over on the Emerald Isle.
ReplyDeletePROPERLY speaking, mind you, it's "critters" - NOT "creatures"!
:-)
