The Big Bang did not create the universe. The universe existed before the big bang. But it was all in one place at one moment in time.
The Big Bang created distance both in space and time.
Perhaps gravity existed before the Big Bang and held everything together in one place and moment in time.
Perhaps gravity is working to bring space and time back to its state prior to the Big Bang and only incidentally draws particles together.
Perhaps gravity stops time breaking up into incohesive moments (particles of time). If it does then this could explain why gravity appears to us to be such a weak force. We are only taking into account its effect on matter and energy.
THEOLOGICAL IDEA
Perhaps the universe before the Big Bang was a thought in the mind of God that expanded into a fully fledged idea.
Perhaps the universe, composed of waves, is, in its entirety, a divine brainwave.
Interesting! There is some experimental data emerging that demonstrates a gravitational effect on time. Hmmm...

I think there's a word for this - is is "entropy?"
There are two main guesses. One is that there was no place because there was no distance. The other is that our universe (and maybe others) exist on eternal, infinite planes (branes).

I think that in our mortal lives, the language of the universe is, needs be, scientific, and all God-talk can only be metaphorical.

ReplyDeleteDon't say anything too loud, though, or you can't be Christian anymore. Or at least, not a gnostic.
If the metaphoric is real (and I don't disagree with that idea) then the metaphoric is scientific. Anything that is real can potentially be studied by science. Anything that cannot potentially be studied by science is not real and therefore does not exist. I refuse to adopt a dualistic view of God that removes God from the material world.
