A Roman Catholic priest in Germany has admitted to 280 counts of sexually abusing three boys over a several-year period. The 46-year-old priest, who has been suspended, went on trial Thursday at the state court in Braunschweig. The dapd news agency reported that he showed no remorse.
Ye gods! How are they going to spin this one?
I was shocked to find that Bill Donohue's nasty attack on a child abuse victim was posted approvingly on NY Abp (soon to be Cardinal) Dolan's blog. SO were a number of his readers.

Tin ears....
No remorse? What the heck does that mean to him? Good God...
ReplyDeleteSpinning: "...but it was only three children..."
ReplyDeleteLet me see if I can write the news release for the bishop:
ReplyDeleteThe diocese is deeply aware of the pain caused by a single individual who, even though he was a gay person, was able to pass our ordination process. We have subsequently repaired that process so that the faithful can be sure that all of "the gays" have been removed.
How did I do?
FWIW

The telling truth to me from the BBC story is this:
ReplyDelete'When asked in court if he [Fr. Andraes] was a paedophile, he replied, according to local newspaper Braunschweiger Zeitung: "It would be wrong to say No but to say Yes would also fall short of the truth."...When a prosecutor asked him in court if he thought a "father would do this to his children", he was silent.'
Vatican double-speak about paedophilia may cast a cloud on the charges, but it won't absolve you of your own guilt, my dear father.
This ep of South Park looks truer and truer every day...
ReplyDeleteGermany, huh? Age 46? Makes you wonder if, as a seminarian, he knew (perhaps Biblically) a certain Bishop/Cardinal Ratzinger... }-X
ReplyDeleteOne gets to see the most amazing stuff in this place.....:-)
ReplyDelete"At least he didn't support abortion rights ...."
ReplyDelete... or gay marriage."
ReplyDelete"...or women priests." Then he'd really be in trouble.
ReplyDeleteIT, I am absolutely stunned that soon-to-be Cardinal Dolan in NYC had the gall to post that diatribe from Bill Donahue and to praise it. That is beyond “tin ear” and bordering on psychosis I would think. Added to MP’s post it presents one horrible portrait of the RCC. Circle the wagons, protect the hierarchy, victims be damned! This truly stands a good chance of bringing down the western RCC forever I believe. May God have mercy!
ReplyDeleteI think the German and Dutch Roman Catholic Church will distance itself from Rome, if not actually split from Rome, within the next year or so. We will (hopefully) go back to the pre-Christendom situation with national Catholic churches having far more autonomy. Benedict's plan to centralize power is going to back fire on him and he will end up driving his more enlightened provinces away from Rome.

ReplyDeleteHmmm, sounds familiar?
