Mercy, they're dropping like...I mean, they're flying like ANGELS!
ReplyDelete[And we still haven't remembered 11 months of 2011. :-( ]
Thanks for this! It's sad to see so many, most of whom I had never heard. I did know about Johnny Otis. I didn't know he wasn't Black until about a year ago! Apparently a lot of folks in the South were unaware.
ReplyDeleteIn England he would be black.
ReplyDeleteGreeks are black in England?
ReplyDeleteYes, Susan. Anybody who isn't pasty, northern European white, is black. So the Spanish are black and even most of the French. The Dutch and the Scandinavians are white, as are the Irish and the Scots. The Welsh are regarded as black, even though they are now white because up until Thatcher closing the coal mines they were black (at least, most of the time). I would point out that I am in no way implying that the majority of the world's population is inferior to the English because of their skin tone. No. Everybody else is inferior because they are not English.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know it's because we're not English, MP! I bow to your superiority. I stand no chance, as I am of Welsh and Irish descent.
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of the Major in Fawlty Towers who I believe once stated that "Wogs begin at Calais."
Well, "wog" is a derogatory word. When a good, Christian Englishman, like myself says that people who are not English are inferior it is just a statement of fact without any malice being intended. I wouldn't call a bird racist for pointing out to me that I can't fly.
ReplyDeleteOK. Sorry. I won't use it again.
ReplyDeleteActually, Susan, I don't think the English really do think they are superior. I think Americans assume we think that because we don't worry about being inferior and they, being a young nation which hasn't had its arse kicked yet, do so all the while. I am amazed at how much TEC members whinge about other provinces being anti-American. So what? Every country in Europe is hated by all the other countries in Europe to a greater or lesser extent. After thousands of years of bickering we have all got used to it and so don't bat an eyelid if another nation has a go at us. Well, everyone except the Scots who are more paranoid than you lot.
ReplyDeleteYeh, but paranoid Scots don't have their thumb on the nuclear button like we paranoid U.S.ers do. Scots paranoia only hurts the Scots. Ours hurts the whole world.
