METHOD IN MY MADNESS

Even though the Common Lectionary gives three readings for every, main Eucharistic service on Sundays, in my liturgical resource, "New Words For Holy Communion," everything relates to the gospel reading only. There is a reason for this. Some churches only have one reading plus the gospel at their Sunday service. This often happens in churches where the vicar is summarily lynched on his own sanctuary screen if the service takes even just one second more than exactly sixty minutes. If I related my prayers and what have you to all three readings a lot of them wouldn't make sense in such churches.

Secondly, in England, at least, and especially in non-Anglo-Catholic churches, the priest will use the Sunday readings for weekday services. At these services it is unusual for all three readings to be spoken.

So, there you have it. Another reason why you should purchase "New Words for Holy Communion," and use them as part of eucharistic worship on any day of the week that you like.

NEW WORDS FOR HOLY COMMUNION:

  1. Not Methodism in your madness then?

  2. There may be a little methodism in me somewhere. But there's none of that heretical baptist nonsense!

  3. I'll be happy to give testimony regarding the quality of these particular prayers. They're very well done - and people here have talked about the way they complement the themes of the liturgy. Thanks for making them available!
