Most modern, male, black music is nothing more than white record company execs and black men, whose development was arrested at about age fourteen, wanking over videos of black women's bottoms and boobs. Most modern, female, black music is just an opportunity for them to do so. Therefore, it is always wonderfully refreshing (in a restore your faith in the creative genius of black people sort of way) to come across a new soul record by a black performer that is a true celebration of the singer's art and the musician's talent. Lee Fields' new album contains absolutely no references to the size of his penis, bitches, whores, gang warfare, killing policemen or bling. It is just a great southern soul album crammed with emotion and songs about love and losing love. You know, just like it always used to be.
