DEATH OF A FRIEND
Glenna, the dog who was supposed to live forever, died this evening. This afternoon she was running around on the beach with Delphi but when we returned home she suffered a seizure and, within the hour, had passed away.
When this year started I had such high hopes. I really thought things were going to go well for me for a change. Instead I have said goodbye to my best ever cat, Henry and my best ever dog, Glenna. How can a poor man stand such times and live?

Deeply saddened to hear of your losses Jonathan. In my 74yrs. I've had a lot of deeply loved friends pass on so I know how hard it is. Doesn't seem right (poor planning somewhere) that some of our dearest companions have such comparatively short life spans, eh? Condolences friend.

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Jonathan. Your furry companions were and are lucky to have you. You and yours have my deepest sympathy--it has been a rough year for pets in our household, too, and I understand how bereft you feel. She was such a lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteWe are very sorry to hear this Jonathan. It is never easy to lose an old friend, and the unconditional affection dogs show us makes it that much harder. Our two Cavaliers both have congestive heart failure, and I suspect we will be joining you far sooner than we would have expected..... Peace to Glenna.
ReplyDeleteJonathan, tears are running down my face and my heart is aching for you. I still miss my little buddy every day and you will also. The only consolation for you is that she did not have to linger and suffer. It is so very hard.

I'm so sorry for your lose. I believe your furry friends are waiting for you in Glory, one day you'll see them again. God gives the desires of the heart to those who truly trust Him.

ReplyDeleteJonathan, no words can take away the grief. Dogs endlessly remind us of who we aspire to be, because they love us as though we are the best of people. Glenna lived a fine life to the fullest, and knew nothing but love. you gave her the best gift man can give dog, which is to love them as unconditionally as they love us. And that means you have known unconditional love, and does that mean we learn God from Dog?
I am so sorry at this news and so sad that we are thousands of mile apart. Because I would like to join you in the wake that will celebrate Glenna, and remind you that she loved you unconditionally, as all of us are meant to be loved. Since I cannot be there, please raise a pint in her honor and toast her on the journey to the golden tail.

Jonathan+, I am truly sorry for this unexpected and heartwrenching loss amidst everything else. Nothing anyone says who is too cowardly to go by their true name, is merely dust in the wind. Their words are empty and meaningless. You know who truly cares for you. By the way Anon, you shouldn't talk about yourself like that in public.

Cling to those magnificent memories and all the unconditional love that you shared. Glenna gave you a taste of heaven which she now enjoys to the full.

ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry for your loss. Having lived with several dogs over my days, I know the unique pain that comes with our canine friends crossing over. Times like this are reminders that we all have but a short span on this earth and that we should cherish the days given to us, the world in which we live and those who we share it with.
Something I learned from my Sara, may she sleep warmly and play gently beyond the veil.
Jonathan... Prayers, tears, and all my love to you and Mrs. MP and Delphi (who may miss Glenna the most). Be comforted knowing the joy she brought you all these years, and knowing the selfless love and care you gave to her that made her life a splendid and happy one.

ReplyDeleteI know what it is to lose the “best-ever dog.” I still miss mine every day. There will always be an empty place in our hearts for these beloved companions, even though other dogs fill our lives and hearts in other ways. According to The Legend of the Rainbow Bridge, our dogs are waiting for us just this side of heaven so we can cross over together someday.
Thanks to everyone who left comments here, especially the Thomas Wolfe poem. These help me with my own grief over lost pets.

ReplyDeleteGlenna has crossed the rainbow bridge and awaits you while she plays with Henry. Those we love are there for us, when it is our time to make the journey. But that does not make the loss any less painful.
Prayers for you, Mrs. Madpriest and all the Mad gang as you mourn. "Those that mourn shall be comforted." I believe that, although it is going to be difficult for you to see it for a while.
