This is a truly inspiring video. The young man who stands up to the homophobe preacher in a crowded subway train is a hero and good on the passengers for backing him up. But my favourite bit of the video is the film of the man sitting there, reading a book, pretending that nothing out of the ordinary is happening. I fear that being an Englishman and, therefore, having an extremely low embarrassment threshold, I would be that man if I was travelling on that particular coach.
I suspect I too would keep reading my book as well, iPod ear buds firmly in place. However, I suspect the gay man is post-evangelical - "False prophet" and "Jesus loves me" are a couple of the tells. You can take the boy out of the evangelical, but seldom can take the evangelical out of the boy. That's a good thing, 'cuz you libs need us around. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, KJ. It's the fact that he slapped the preacher down using his own language that makes this incident so brilliant.
